Violin
Dorothy Ro, praised by the South China Morning Post for her “rich and powerful violin sound,” is a Canadian violinist celebrated for her compelling artistry, dynamic versatility, and passionate commitment to chamber music. A member of the Verona Quartet, she has garnered international acclaim as a winner of the Concert Artists Guild Competition and prize laureate at the Wigmore Hall, Melbourne, and Bordeaux competitions.
Ro has performed on many of the world’s leading stages including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Philharmonie de Paris, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center, and at festivals such as Bravo! Vail, Santa Fe, Beare’s Premiere Music Festival, and Ottawa Chamberfest. Her collaborations include Renée Fleming, Cho-Liang Lin, David Shifrin, Anne-Marie McDermott, and members of the Juilliard, Cleveland, Borromeo, and Dover Quartets.
With the Verona Quartet, Ro received the Cleveland Quartet Award, one of the highest honors in chamber music. She has recorded for Bright Shiny Things, Dynamic, and Azica Records. Her 2023 album Shatter debuted at #1 on the Billboard Traditional Classical Chart, while Diffusion was praised by BBC Music Magazine for its “radiant glow.”
A devoted educator, Ro serves as Assistant Professor of Chamber Music at Oberlin Conservatory and has led masterclasses at leading institutions across North America. She is also Co-Artistic Director of the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance in her native Nova Scotia and has served on juries for major competitions including the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
Ro is a graduate of the Juilliard School, New England Conservatory, Cleveland Institute of Music, Rice University, and Indiana University, where she studied with Paul Kantor, Donald Weilerstein, David and Linda Cerone, and Alex Kerr.
